Chipped Teeth

Chipped teeth lessen the dazzle of even the brightest of smiles, even when the teeth are at their whitest. When you talk or smile, there is a huge possibility that your chipped teeth will be the focus of those who are in front of you. Chipping teeth can be caused by a number of factors – mostly accidental. Accidents and trauma to the mouth or face area can lead to chipped teeth; these accidents may or may not include sports–related injuries, automotive accidents, rough playing, biting on something extremely hard. So what do you do if you have chipped teeth? No need to hide behind a half–smile! With the technology available in the world of dentistry nowadays, there are many options to turn your chipped teeth back into a completely dazzling smile with one of these procedures:

  • Enamel Shaping – For minor chip teeth cases and slight imperfections, enamel shaping is the solution. The procedure fixes the contour of a small area of the tooth's surface, and easily evens out the rough areas on the teeth chipped.
  • Dental Bonding or fillings– This involves using a composite of the same colour as the natural tooth to fill out the damaged area of the chipped teeth. Depending on the extent of damage, dental bonding or fillings can repair the chipped teeth in a matter of hours.
  • Dental Veneer – Used for more extensively-damaged chipped teeth, a dental veneer is a thin porcelain layer used to cover the natural teeth – and the teeth chipped.
  • Dental Crown – These are used for chipped teeth that are larger, and in general have suffered more serious damage. Dental Crown are the best solution if you experience pain and discomfort when you chew using your chipped teeth, or they become extremely sensitive to heat and cold.
  • Dental implants – For cases where the chipped teeth have suffered extensive damage and have to be extracted, Dental implants are the answer. The dental implant provides a root structure for the replacement tooth to anchor to, to replace the chipped teeth.

Having teeth chipped is by no means the end of the world – or your bright smile, for that matter. Just seek the help of your dentist as soon as the chipping occurs, so you are given a solution as soon as possible.
